Decarbonising the food industry

EXQUISHEAT is an initiative co-funded by the European Union that aims to decarbonise the food industry by promoting the use of industrial heat pumps. The project aims to overcome current barriers — such as low awareness and integration with existing industrial processes — by developing standardised and replicable solutions with up to six times higher efficiency than fossil fuel boilers. The focus is on four key production processes: hot water production for sanitisation, pasteurisation, evaporation/drying and refrigeration. Finally, the project promotes long-term collaboration between the food and technology sectors through a dedicated platform.

The Partners

The project brings together nine organisations from different countries specialising in different fields
•    VEOLIA (Belgium): Project coordinator
•    Dr. Jakob Energy Research (JER) (Germany): Technical coordinator.
•    EHPA (European Heat Pump Association - Belgium): Communication and dissemination coordinator.
•    NAPE (Poland): National Agency for Energy Conservation.
•    GEA (Germany): Refrigeration engineering and technologies.
•    FPI (Food-Processing Initiative e. V. - Germany).
•    AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology - Austria).
•    Clúster Alimentario de Galicia (Spain).
•    CLIVET (Italy)

Clivet's role

Within the EXQUISHEAT project, Clivet acts as an industrial and technological partner, providing its technical expertise in the design of heat pump systems for the development of standardised solutions applicable to industrial food processes and collaborating in the definition of replicable and scalable models to facilitate the integration of technology into existing production lines, directly contributing to the sector's decarbonisation and energy independence objectives.
